THE BRANDON ALLEN/TOM OLLENDORFF QUARTET: “SCOFIELD, METHENY, AND MARTINO!"

Saxophonist Brandon Allen and guitarist Tom Ollendorff unite in a dynamic new project celebrating the rich lineage of guitar–saxophone interplay in modern jazz. Drawing inspiration from the music of John Scofield, Pat Metheny and Pat Martino, the group explores the lyricism, fire, and harmonic depth that have defined these iconic composers and improvisers.

Allen’s warm, full-bodied tenor sound meets Ollendorff’s fluid, melodic approach and deep harmonic sensibility, creating a conversational ensemble dynamic that sits at the heart of this project. Together, they reinterpret classic compassions with a fresh, contemporary edge while honouring the spirit of the originals.

Showcasing the natural dialogue between guitar and tenor saxophone, the group blends intricate lines, expressive phrasing, and thoughtful improvision. Their performances highlight both players’ virtuosity and their shared commitment to musical storytelling—offering audiences a compelling tribute to three of jazz’s most influential voices.

Line up:

Brandon Allen – tenor saxophone

Tom Ollendorff – guitar

Jeremy Brown – bass

Dave Ingamells – drums

Brandon Allen was born in Perth, Australia and relocated to London in 2000. Since that time he has performed with a variety of leading artists including Eric Clapton, Omar, Paloma Faith, Kyle Eastwood, Robin McKelle, Camille Bertault, Ibrahim Maalouf, Stefano Di BaZsta and the Czech National Symphony Orchestra. He continues to tour extensively with bassist Kyle Eastwood, recently performing at The Detroit and Monterey Jazz Festivals in the USA.

Tom Ollendorff is fast becoming one of the best-known young guitarists to emerge on the international jazz scene. Tom is known for his highly distinctive sound which blends virtuosic technique, sophisticated harmonic concepts with nuance and sensitivity and in October 2022 he published his first works for solo guitar with Faber Music. The book, titled ‘Etudes’ has been sold across Europe, Asia, Australasia, and North America.

Jeremy Brown is one of the foremost bass players on the UK Jazz scene, a member for 10 years with Peter King's quartet then regularly with British Jazz greats such as Stan Tracey, Bobby Wellins, Bill Le Sage and Irish Guitarist Louis Stewart as well as working and recording with his peers.

David Ingamells has established himself as one of the most versatile jazz drummers of his generation. He performs regularly at all the major jazz clubs and venues in the UK, such as Ronnie Scod’s, the Vortex, the 606, Café Oto, and Pizza Express Live, as well as concert halls including the Royal Albert Hall, Southbank Centre, and Cadogan Hall.
