'Five of A Kind' is a London-based quintet project led by pianist and composer Laurie Rich and features a group of young, sonically adventurous, artistically distinct musicians such as rising trumpet star Klara Devlin.
The band met while studying together in the Jazz Department of the Royal Academy of Music and by exploring London's vibrant and eclectic jazz scene. After playing a series of concerts with various lineups across England and Wales in the fall of 2025, the band returned with this show at Jazz Cafe POSK this October.
Most of the music performed will be written by Laurie, specifically with these musicians in mind, as well as influenced by the writing and improvising of both modern New York and European Jazz.

Laurie Rich is a pianist and composer working in the idiom of improvised music who began his studies at London's Royal Academy of Music in September 2025, with the support of Help Musicians, after graduating from Cardiff University's School of Music in 2025. Laurie co-leads the Berlin-based modern-jazz collective 'biggerPicture' alongside Danish Bujazzo trumpeter Tobias Bech. He also features in projects such as BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year 2024, bassist Ursula Harrison's 'Orbit Street', as well as the Liva Strazdina Quintet and 'Turkish Story'. Laurie performs frequently between the jazz scenes of London and Berlin, having performed at venues such as Ronnie Scott’s, A Trane Berlin, Vortex Jazz Club and Zig Zag Berlin. He has band-led projects performing at the Vortex, Copenhagen Jazz Festival and Brecon Jazz Festival and has performed as a sideman under Donovan Haffner, Klara Devlin, Ananda Brandão, George Johnson and Elliot Wong.
He was awarded both a Presidential Award Scholarship from the Manhattan School of Music and a Royal Academy of Music Scholarship, and was also selected as a finalist for the audition process of the Mainz-based international Gutenberg Jazz Collective in 2025.
Finn Genockey is a jazz drummer, composer and bandleader based in London. Since starting drums at the age of 6, Finn has had plenty of experience performing regularly with some of the most notable jazz artists such as Rufus Reid and Stan Sulzmann at some of the country’s top jazz venues such as Ronnie Scott’s, Pizza Express Soho and Vortex as well as across the world in places such as Germany, France and the Caribbean. He also regularly writes music for the ensembles he runs: including The London Intercollegiate Jazz Orchestra which he founded for a debut performance as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival as well as his longstanding international quartet.Tacet Trust, his debut album, was released on Fresh Sound New Talent in 2025.
19-year-old jazz trumpet player, Klara Devlin, was a 2024 BBC Young Jazz Musician finalist, currently studying jazz at the Royal Academy of Music. She began playing trumpet at five and discovered jazz at eight. Her quartet, formed through Tomorrow’s Warriors, performs her original compositions and arrangements inspired by bebop, blues and free jazz. The Klara Devlin Quartet has appeared across numerous jazz venues and festivals, including Ronnie Scott’s Late Late show, The Jazz Café, Jazz In The Round, Pizza Express Soho, JazzLive at the Crypt and performances at the Brick Lane, We Out Here and Brecon Jazz festivals.
In the words of Tony Kofi: “Klara Devlin, remember her name, she is in my opinion one of the most amazing and unique new trumpet voices to emerge onto the UK jazz scene. To coin the famous quote ‘if ya ain’t got it in ya, ya can’t blow it out’. Klara Devlin definitely has it, and definitely blows it out of her horn! I’m about 2-3 jazz generations in front of her and I’ve never been this excited about a young musician, definitely a stylist who’ll be making new waves for the next generation.”
Dylan Chandler Pardo is a saxophonist, composer, and multidisciplinary creator from Barcelona. He has toured extensively with a wide range of artists, including performances at the Barcelona Jazz Festival, Jazz Madrid and Mas i Mas Festival.
Ben Boardman is a jazz bassist and composer based in London, UK. Originally from Vancouver Canada, Ben spent five years in Montreal where he studied at McGill University and worked as a sideman for Caity Gyorgy, Nick Semenykhin, and Bryn Roberts; playing shows across Canada. Since moving to the UK, Ben has played at Ronnie Scott’s with Phil Meadows ‘Future Movers’ and recently lead a group of Royal Academy of Music students performing at Windsor Castle for the German state visit to the UK
