The Julian Costello Quartet make a welcome return to our stage and will be performing tunes from their new album, Transitions, to be released in September. It was recorded by multi Grammy award winning ECM engineer Stefano Amerio in Italy.
This quirky quartet has a new and International line up consisting of;
Julian Costello - tenor and soprano saxophones
Maciek Pysz - electric and classical guitars
Yuri Goloubev - double bass
Adam Teixeira - drums and percussion
The band likes to jam and the tunes often segue from one to the next encompassing changing grooves in different time signatures, tuneful melodies energy and humour. All the tunes are original compositions.
“The combination of soprano saxophone and guitar was highly effective and Costello adopted a warm, clarinet like tone on his soprano ... on an episodic piece that also featured some exquisite interplay between Pysz and Costello”. Ian Mann.
“Julian is one of Jazz's great characters” Peter Kaczmarski
"Costello is an extremely moody player on both saxophones and his compositions cover many musical areas ...an emotive and soulful tenor player" - Jazzwise magazine
The new album by Julian Costello Quartet. It's serene, sublime and sinuous, very satisfying, trust me! It features Julian on saxes, Maciek, Yuri and Adam so a stellar line up. It was recorded, mixed and mastered at Artesuono Studio in Italy by Stefano Amerio the fifth artist in the room. Mary James.
