“Samuel Eagles is rapidly standing out from what is today’s norm, with a fresh ear for the music and an exciting approach to improvisation, Samuel is set to make a big impact”
Jean Toussaint
‘Gila Chaya’ means joy and life, which is at the heart of my music. Composer, vocalist and pianist - my style is primarily inspired by jazz, with a folky/alternative edge. My influences range widely from Shostakovich’s symphonies, tradjazz great - Jack Teagarden, German Cabaret, Fado, latin jazz , Philip Glass, to the soulful bass of Avishai Cohen.
Based in London, but born in South African of German and Jewish Polish roots, I have been singing and playing the piano for as long as I can remember. I studied classical piano for 6 years, and jazz singing for 2 years with London jazz great - Carol Grimes. I and am currently studying jazz at Goldsmith’s College. I have performed with, and been directed by, distinguished jazz and classical musicians across London, including a production of Bernstein’s Mass at the Royal Festival Hall, directed by Marin Alsop.
My latest composition, ‘Basho in Three’ is now out on the new Soki2u album ‘Dancing Through The Needles Eye’.
