Fabienne Ambuehl is a London-based Swiss pianist, singer and composer known for her vibrant contemporary jazz with a unique blend of folk, poetry and storytelling. With her supple piano playing and rich emotive vocals, she draws inspiration from the stillness of nature and the sounds of city life. With striking energy and dynamism, her music captures vivid images of place and landscape. Ambuehl first made her mark with Glitterwoods (Traumton, Berlin), listed as an ‘Album of the Year’ by UK Vibe, and has since played and recorded internationally as a pianist/singer with various artists.
Her latest album Thrive (Ubuntu Music), was released this year to glowing acclaim from the international jazz press. Ambuehl’s vocals have been described as „crystal clear, distinct and refreshingly free of jazz clichés“ (Nick Lea, Jazzviews) while the album as a whole „creates an impressively immersive musical experience“ (Peter Quinn, Jazzwise Magazine). Thrive was selected 'Album of the Week' on both Presto Music and the German Rondo Magazin, had regular UK radio play on BBC Radio 3 and was on the JazzFM playlist for several weeks.
Ambuehl leads a quartet with some of the UK’s most in-demand jazz musicians; bassist Tom Farmer with his inventive lines and rich tone, drummer Jon Scott, known for his subtle textures and explosive creativity and Tom Ollendorff on guitar, one of the most distinctive voices on the instrument, contributing luminous harmonies and melodies.
With compelling rhythms and influences drawn from blues, Brahms and the Beatles, the Fabienne Ambuehl Quartet creates a sound that is daring yet intimate, and truly its own.
