DOROTA MIŚKIEWICZ & MAREK NAPIÓRKOWSKI!
This concert, a fusion of the personalities of the multiple winners of Jazz Forum magazine's "Jazz Top" poll in the categories of Vocalist and Guitarist of the Year, demonstrates how much can happen on stage and in sound using two fundamental instruments: guitar and voice. The concert program includes the most famous songs from Dorota Miśkiewicz's solo albums, as well as gems of Polish song (Młynarski, Osiecka, Czubaszek), and jazz standards in new interpretations.
DOROTA MIŚKIEWICZ:
One of the most important voices in Polish jazz, a composer and songwriter. She has released nine albums, many of which have been nominated for Fryderyk Awards, and in recent years she has been named Vocalist of the Year in the annual ranking by "Jazz Forum" magazine. Her latest album, "Bons Amigos," was released on September 8, 2023, recorded in Rio de Janeiro with Latin jazz icon, Brazilian guitarist Toninho Horta. It was nominated for a Fryderyk 2024 in the Jazz Album of the Year category, and Dorota herself was nominated in the Artist of the Year category.
Dorota Miśkiewicz is also a visionary who creates bold, artistic ideas. It was her initiative, among other things, to launch the unprecedented PIANO.PL project, during which, for the first time in the history of Polish music, more than a dozen outstanding Polish pianists from three generations performed on one stage in chamber duets with the Atom String Quartet. For this performance, she received a Fryderyk nomination and the prestigious Coryphaeus of Polish Music award.
The number of collaborations she has participated in at the invitation of other artists is countless. She was one of the few to sing and record a duet with Cesaria Evora; their song "UmPincelada" was enthusiastically received by music lovers worldwide. She has also collaborated with Nigel Kennedy, Stefano Bollani, David Murray, Louis Winsberg, Kepa Junkera, Toninho Horta, Tomasz Stańko, and a whole host of artists from the Polish music scene.
Rooted in jazz, she readily explores other musical aesthetics, often expert ones. For years, she has been heard on Grzegorz Turnau's albums and concerts and has been invited to collaborate on projects by artists from the hip-hop scene (including LUC), contemporary, and avant-garde (Paweł Szamburski, Kwadrofonik, Agata Zubel).
MAREK NAPIÓRKOWSKI:
